THE SUB-MISSION 2017 Selection Committee Announced

THE MISSION is pleased to announce THE SUB-MISSION 2017 Selection Committee. The Selection Committee represents a wide range of Chicago-based curators, artists, writers, critics and collectors who are invited by THE MISSION to lend their expertise in selecting the most thought-provoking, innovative proposals for THE SUB-MISSION.
Located below the main gallery, THE SUB-MISSION is an alternative installation project space dedicated to the development of artists living and working in Chicago. THE SUB-MISSION was created to foster the investigation of new ideas and artistic processes and to facilitate an exchange between artists and the artistic community.
SABINA OTT received a Guggenheim Fellowship for 2015-2016 and recently completed a public art commission for the Chicago Transit Authority as well as a solo exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center. She earned both her BFA and MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Exhibiting since 1985, she has participated in over 100 solo and group exhibitions at institutions in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Auckland, New Zealand; Melbourne, Australia; and many cities across the US. Her work is in numerous museum collections including The Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Oakland Museum of Art and has been reviewed in Art in America, Art Forum, New Art Examiner, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times, among other publications.
RODRIGO LARA ZENDEJAS was born in Mexico in 1981. Rodrigo Lara received his BFA from Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico, and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been shown in Mexico, the US, Canada, Europe and China. He has recently exhibited at the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Hyde Park Art Center and extensively in Mexico, including solo exhibitions at Museum of Modern Art, Toluca, Municipal Gallery, Libertad Gallery and Fabrica la Aurora. Forthcoming exhibitions include a solo show in Marfa, Texas in 2016 and a group exhibition at DePaul Art Museum in 2017. He currently lives and works in Chicago, IL and Mexico City.
ALLISON GLENN is an art historian, curator and writer. She has curated exhibitions at Monique Meloche Gallery, the Arts Incubator in Washington Park and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2015, Glenn was a Curatorial Fellow with the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and named to the “Art 50: Chicago’s Visual Vanguard”. Her writing has been featured in exhibition publications such as Noah Purifoy: Junk Dada, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2015) and she has contributed to Art21 and Newcity, amongst others. Glenn received a BFA in Photography with a co-Major in Urban Studies from Wayne State University and a dual Master’s degree in Art History, Theory & Criticism and Arts Administration and Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
STEVEN L. BRIDGES is Assistant Curator at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University. Forthcoming exhibitions include the debut of British artist Sam Jury’s new project, To Be Here. Prior to this, Bridges was Curatorial Assistant at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. From 2011-2015, Bridges co-curated the annual Rapid Pulse International Performance Art Festival in Chicago. In 2012 he co-curated the MFA thesis exhibition at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, his alma mater, where he earned Master’s Degrees in Arts Administration and Policy and Art History, Theory & Criticism. An avid writer, his essays and articles have been published in numerous journals, including Art & the Public Sphere, the Live Arts Almanac, Dispatch and Art & Education Papers as well as exhibition catalogues and other online and print media.
