THE MISSION is pleased to showcase large-scale works by Argentine artists Gustavo Díaz and Marcelo Grosman at EXPO Chicago in Booth 816.

Díaz and Grosman present large-scale, multi-layered, and boundless compositions that require engagement with the work’s innate complexity. Díaz’s elaborately assembled, three-dimensional acrylic reliefs explore the visual intricacies of structure, instability, and chaos. Grosman reimagines the mugshot and constructs images through a digital process that creates a dense overlay of pixilated residue over vibrant color. Both artists explore universal themes and translate them into polished, strikingly beautiful works in which systematic processes are both evident and integral.

THE MISSION // EXPO Special Project

Marcelo Grosman was selected for a Special Project at EXPO Chicago as part of IN/SITU. Grosman’s large-scale photo window mural will be on view at the fair entrance. The piece, Menor 14-18, #6, is part of Grosman’s “GUILTY!” series.

“A composite sketch is an eyewitness’s description of a criminal’s face that relies on testimony based on subjective memory rather than on factual objectivity. The subjects of Marcelo Grosman’s ongoing photographic series entitled GUILTY! elicits this association. Unlike the system used by police departments, Grosman constructs his images through a digital process that creates a dense overlay of pixilated residue, creating a feeling of social aberration that dominates the work.”
